The Survival Of The Youths As Leaders Of Today

The Nigerian youths are living the future of the past already. It is a more multifarious world now remember and challenges are even more wholly immeasurable. Let's rejoice because we are not as bad as they say after all. It is imperative to assert that we are not where we dream or deserve to be and yes, it could be better but it way supersedes the cynics' conviction about us. We are beyond the halfway mark, far from our dream land but nothing close to the skeptics conception of us.

They perceive us as indolent silhouettes and mannequins, metaphorically speaking who are incapable of championing an initiative but that's not us, far from it. We are the new order, the electronic age generation who do not necessarily follow suit or script, semi-formal, work lesser hours, sometimes spend profligately, gritty juveniles, laugh at empty jokes and still love to meet new people.

We are there, the new youth is alive and ripe for leadership, we have shown our unlimited capacity in as much as many aspect of life. At half a decade of age, our invaluable efforts cut across all ramifications. From the health sector, to the educational system, the industrial sector, food and drinks, technological advancement is modern, science world is widely dominated, textiles, construction and engineering is dominated by our agility and character. The list is endless.

So, this may lead me to ask; why the fallacy and hoax about the lack of leadership character amongst us? Gibberish talks you might want to agree. But in reality, it's a simple phenomenon of never give a lawyer's job to a dentist. We have youths who have excelled beautifully in their chosen fields and all we need to do is choose carefully the meritorious character with the top agility and leadership dexterity to lead us.

Youths have liberated nations and emancipated the citizenry. Youths have led wars and conquered. Youths have set foot on the moon, orbited the earth and lived aboard space stations for extended period of time. Youths have consummated so much for humanity, why will the leadership in the Nigerian structure be an exemption.

We can't keep looking akimbo when the leadership office becomes vacant, we can't keep maintaining the passive mode at critical times, we can't hold on to the dormancy state when much is expected of us. Leaders of today! Tomorrow is today! Let's put our acts right, let's hustle and join the tussle for the office of the premier in our different realms, our provinces have to be dominated by the youthful aura instilled in us by nature. This is the defining moment in this period of our existence, let's go all out and dominate our species.

Time for the youths is now!

The Trump Card

The greatness of America cannot be over emphasized but lacking prominently is Ethics and Value. Long wallowed in time immemorial extinction.

The American election campaigns played host to too many unethical rulings, all manners of slander, exhuming of archives and encroachment of privacy. It did went over the bar. I remembered Donald Trump once threatening Ted Cruz of being involved in his wife's nude photographs which resurfaced online and in retaliation he would spill the beans of Ted Cruz's wife too. It was that bad.

He went vulgar on Hilary at some point, called her all sort of names.

Then came the Access tape, where he was heard bragging about groping women and other allegations of sexual misconduct and assault. Pre-election polls rated Trump bleak with the women folks.

But needless to say, all these factors were stage shy when it came down to the manifestation of the people's franchise. He won nonetheless. And it was on record that a large chunk of the white women voted Mr Trump and he won in Pennsylvania, a state that had voted Democratic since 1992.

He was spiteful of women sometimes or may be he wasn't, may be he was being intuitive and lacked second thoughts on key issues or may be he was play-acting, playing out a script; the Trump card. Either way it worked out just well for Trump and team.

Left in awe of these revelations, I'm tempted to ask: would this have worked out in Africa, Nigeria precisely? The answer cannot be farfetched. You completely remove your ethics and morals garb, gab conceitedly and still get the nod and 'dab' of the majority. Awesome. Isn't that a drive against the odds.

I hope his manner of historic feat against all foresights, seers, analysts, predictors and expert reviews is adopted into the curriculum as a basis for political campaign. Get-the-ticket-at-all-cost tactics. He has even greater task ahead of him, raising the wall don't come about that easily, you make even more enemies.

I hope he makes America great again!

Foreign Accent Syndrome

Foreign Accent Syndrome

A rare condition in which brain injuries changes a person's speech patterns, giving them a different accent, so that a native speaker is perceived to speak with a foreign accents.

Some cases tend to reverse with time but other cases stay permanent. It in fact  leads to alienation from their surroundings, due to a language barrier, a recluse precisely speaking.

How does this happen? It sound miraculous just that scientists have no simple interpretation for the word 'miracle'. It is just non-existence in their chest of vocabularies.

So they go ahead with their research and assemble a medical condition for this again rare situation.

An impairment of motor control, which usually results from stroke, head trauma, migraines or developmental problems. Other causes include multiple sclerosis and conversion disorder while in some cases no clear cause has been identified.

A most recent case is of a teen, an high school sophomore who had an head collision while keeping the goal post for his team, in the course of the collision, he went into a coma and when he woke up he spoke fluent Spanish more like a native.

Quite fascinating, you would agree but in the African world that would be termed wonders, miraculous wonders from the Almighty God. How very much we differ?

Is Goodluck Jonathan Ready To Talk?

That was the question that ran through my mind all day when the news of former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan's speech at the Oxford Union discussing youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, corruption in Nigeria went viral. Is he ready to come out in the public? Is he now ready to hop back into politics? Because he once mentioned that he's taking a break from politics. He has has been politically away for may be 17 months and he's maybe already tired of been adumbrated out of the center stage and like they say: maybe he has gotten his mojo back. Whatever it is, he should not mess with the once military man at the helms; PMB.

The man in question, Sambo Dasuki, who was accused of mismanaging the security fund meant for the procurement of military arms with about $2.1billiion, has been in EFCC custody for well over a year now. He has to a large extent enumerated out how he went about spending the money but even with such frantic effort to make the names of acceptees of the cash go public, he is yet to be released. When he gets discharged and acquitted for one case, he immediately gets incriminated for another. We are talking of multiple count charges.

It is most certainly going to be very heated up in the coming weeks because some group of the populace are already agitating for the former president's immediate arrest and maybe subsequently arraigned for questioning because he was no doubt the grand commander of the misdeed. So if anybody is going to face the wrath of the law, the former president cannot be left out of the action.

Where exactly this game, full of intrigue is headed, I most definitely have no inkling of foreknowledge, but I'm of the assumption that its going to be thrilling for the neutral audience.

A Speech By Dr. Goodluck Jonathan At The Oxford Union

BEING A SPEECH BY DR. GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN, FORMER PRESIDENT, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA AT: “A CONVERSATION TO DISCUSS SOME OF THE ISSUES RELATING TO THE PROMOTION OF YOUTH ENTREPRENEURSHIP” AT THE OXFORD UNION 24TH OCTOBER 2016. 

Protocols. 

It is my pleasure and a great honour to be in the hallowed chambers of the Oxford University, one of the world’s most prestigious universities, not just to speak, but to exchange ideas and answer questions from you, some of the world’s most brilliant youths and future leaders. It is instructive to note that since 1823, the Oxford Union has consistently presented this platform for scholarly and social congregation of the student population, the interchange of ideas, propagation of views in the enhancement of knowledge, and for the overall good of mankind. This is highly commendable. 

This discussion is topical for our global search for development and security. The issue of youth entrepreneurship in Africa is very critical, as Africa is the only continent in which we will witness a population boom in our lifetime. Studies reveal the symbiotic relationship between youth unemployment and youth restiveness. 

Accordingly, most violent crises in Africa have been traced to a lack of education among its teeming youth population. Genuine search for development and sustainable peace must therefore begin with youth empowerment and entrepreneurship. 

When I was Governor of Bayelsa State and later the President of Nigeria, I asked myself some critical questions; · Why are some nations rich and some poor? · Why do individuals that grow up in similar circumstances end up differently, with some as successes and others as failures? · Is the wealth of nations a result of geography, weather, culture, destiny, etc.?  What could a leader do to effectively lift a people out of the depths of poverty, and enable them to achieve prosperity? After much soul searching, my conviction in regards to these questions is this : wealth is a creation of the human mind properly prepared by education.

It is my firm belief that any Nation that does not spend its wealth and resources to developing the capacity of its youth will eventually be forced to devote its resources to fight insecurity amongst those same youths. As a leader, you can decide through your policies to educate the youths, or face the consequences of failing to do so. 

The problem all African leaders have is how to manage the youth bulge. Do we consider this a ticking time bomb or an opportunity? To me there are two key areas we must invest our resources if we are to convert this perceived time bomb to the opportunity I believe it is. The first is requisite education and capacity building. This should be followed by enabling youth entrepreneurship. 

Allow me to share with you a brief account of the implementation of my vision to empower the youth. Within a year of my stewardship as the Governor of Bayelsa State, I gave Education a top priority. I provided infrastructure in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions and gave undergraduate students financial assistance in the form of Bursary awards. 

I started building two special post primary schools for gifted and talented children. The relevance of the gifted children school is obvious. For the talented children, the idea is to develop their natural talents in addition to sound education so that at graduation they can make a living from their God given talents if they choose to do so. While construction work was on-going in the special schools, we initiated a program to encourage the best brains of the State. We selected through competitive entrance examinations the most brilliant pupils in our primary schools and sent them to the best secondary schools in the country. 

The idea was for the State Government to take care of the best brains from the post primary through the tertiary level of their educational career and ensure that they attend the best institutions anywhere in the world. It was designed for a minimum of 100 pupils to be selected for this program annually. I left the State after one year and five months to contest election as the Vice President, and therefore could not see the idea through. 

Upon assumption of office as President of Nigeria, I launched a similar program called the Presidential Special Scholarship Scheme for Innovation and Development. [PRESSID] This scheme nurtured a select cadre of professionals, to serve as facilitators for accelerated, sustainable, economic and technological advancement. Each year, through competitive examinations, we selected between 100-to-120 first class graduates and sent them to the top universities in the world to study for higher degrees. These students were drawn from various STEM disciplines. 

Let me mention here that Oxford University was an integral part of this program and indeed, a favourite for most of our applicants. The essence of the program was to get a crop of youth over a period of time that will advance our course technologically. When I launched the program, I did mention that we were training young people that will take Nigeria to the moon. 

In addition to this, my administration also gave a series of educational incentives to university students across the country. We established twelve conventional Universities and a specialized Maritime University. To assist the disadvantaged children in Northern Nigeria, we built 165 special schools known as “Almajiri School” that integrated Islamic culture into Western education. 

The foundational theme of my Administration was ‘The Transformation Agenda’. It was conceived to engage the latent potential in the entire nation, and to stimulate and enable higher productivity. And this was also the foundation of our youth development drive. The Transformation Agenda sought to address the problems of youth job creation, with emphasis not just in getting our young citizens employed, but in assisting them in acquiring the right skills, and providing the requisite support. This was to enable them set up and run their own businesses; thereby becoming employers of labour themselves. 

In Nigeria and most African countries, there are well-educated young people. The problem is how to create opportunities for them. My Administration came up with various programs to encourage young entrepreneurs. The most popular is the Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria “YouWIN”. It was a unique intervention launched in 2012, which targeted youth with unique business proposals in startups and expansion of existing enterprises. 

YouWin is structured as a competitive cyclic initiative which invites and reviews Business Plans submitted by Youth. Young people who wanted to be entrepreneurs were asked to submit their business proposals. The best business plans were chosen based on relevance, profitability, demand and practicability. The winners were trained and given grants. YouWIN was multi-sector- cutting across light manufacturing, food processing, and the service sector. The motivation for this program is for young people to go into SMEs, create jobs for other young people with the expectation that some would grow to large scale businesses. 

In addition to YouWin, under our broad based Agricultural Transformation Agenda, we developed the Youth Employment in Agriculture Program [YEAP] – and like many of our other youth programs, we incorporated the youth themselves in its design. This took a complete value chain approach from farming to processing and marketing. Just like in the YouWIN initiative, my Administration gave young farmers grants and training. The young people who were involved were called “Nagropreneurs”. 

We also launched The Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS). The objective of this program was to provide temporary work experience for fresh graduates, to enhance their capacity to attract permanent jobs. Eligible graduates are posted to corporations and companies in the private and public sectors. They received practical training and mentorship for a one-year period, within which remuneration is paid by the government. This enabled the young graduates to acquire relevant experience. 

We also increased the allowances due to Youth Corp members by more than 100% in 2011. This was in line with our policy of youth empowerment and development. To ensure that the Nigerian youth benefit massively in the ICT revolution, we created a special Ministry of Communication Technology. We wanted the Nigerian Youth to be self-employed and exploit the advantages of ICT. 

The Ministry, among other things, improved broadband penetration, set up ICT incubation centres in Lagos and Calabar. The efforts of the Young software engineers at the Lagos Co-Creation Hub (CC Hub) became so successful that it did not only give birth to many thriving start-ups, but their activities also attracted the attention of Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg who chose it as his first stop during his first ever visit to Africa. One sector we deliberately encouraged to stimulate job growth for Nigerian Youth was the Nigerian entertainment industry. 

We identified Nollywood as a sector that can employ many young people. We provided a grant of $200 million and for the first time, Nollywood became a major contributor to our GDP. In 2014, Nollywood contributed 1.4% to our GDP. The sporting industry was also not left out. We encouraged our young people in that sector. 

I was to launch a Fund to encourage sporting activities in the Country but I had to bow out by 29th of May 2015. Nigeria has a crop of talented youth but the nation has not properly keyed into the global sports industry. The Fund would have been a catalyst to promoting the Nigerian sports industry by promoting training, welfare of athletes and manufacturing of sporting equipment among other things. 

Distinguished audience let me conclude my speech by urging contemporary African leaders to see youth entrepreneurship as a collective project transcending national boundaries. I believe in the Nigerian youth and indeed African Youths. 

My conviction is not only an emotional one, but one grounded in my experience with youths from all over the continent. You will agree that foremost in the minds of many youth, is a desire to develop their dreams and potentials. Placing them closer to the driving wheel, does a lot for their confidence. 

Despite incredible challenges, Nigerian youths are achieving great things and placing Nigeria positively in the world map. Nigerian youths are an inspiration to their leaders. I once said that I was not elected President of Nigeria to spread poverty, I was elected to generate and spread wealth. My belief in this regard is that getting a job or being a worker cannot completely cure the disease of poverty. It is only your own business that can provide such security and give you the financial freedom you need to prosper. That was why my Administration introduced these initiatives and policies, to enable Nigeria’s youths take their own destinies in their hands. 

You can appreciate that there was a lot of emphasis on education during my time at the helm of both my State and my Nation. This is because the richest people today are those who develop ideas and commercialize them. Viable ideas can only come from educated minds, and money pursues ideas. 

My three flagship programmes ie the gifted and talented children schools in Bayelsa State, the Presidential Special Scholarship Scheme for Innovation and Development and the ICT Incubation Centers (Co-Creation Hub) were geared towards developing that calibre of youth. We may not have been perfect, but we did our best, and our best yielded an era of unprecedented economic growth for Nigeria. A growth that proved the truism that a Nation’s wealth is not underneath the ground but between the ears of her people. 

Under my watch, Nigeria was projected by CNN Money to be the third fastest growing economy in the world for the year 2015 and rated as the largest economy in Africa and the 23rd in the world by the World Bank and the IMF, with a GDP above half a Trillion US dollars. These in a nutshell are some of the ways we were able to promote youth enterprise; a topic that I know is of utmost interest to many of you here.

An Angle From The Nigerian Democracy!

The beauty or crudeness of the Nigerian democracy (as they case may be) is that we will move on regardless of the news leak, political debacle or saga that may evolve from activities therein around us. Nigeria is known especially for being survivors, bring it on and surely we'll beat it. As so many drama unfolds, so many chronicles and new narratives unfurling yet we stand albeit shaken a little but with the propensity to always move on and (wait for it) forget all about the past.

Nigeria have been through a whole lot from the civil war, to the intermittent coup by the military men down to the 90s, to the annulment of June 12, to the longest era of Nigeria democracy ever and has invariably catapulted us to this recent travails of present multiple and endless predicaments we are embroiled in. Infact its a never ending drama of bulletin with an alloy of vilification as a zest to suit the readers taste, this has probably been happening since the inception of the fourth republic.

Letting the camera roll from the National Assembly theatrics to the governorship camps, down to the judiciary and the tribunals, scandals upon scandals. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was a popular figure in his prime on the ascension into the new millennium. He was the revered father of the new Nigeria, may be till date. But he sure did make the waters reverberate.

Either by careful game plan, intellectual principle or simple bargaining, he somehow had a foothold of the escapades of our political lords, thereby dictating the pace of the game; politics.

But since he left power, it has been a crowded gathering of high ranking lordships. Many kingpins have emerged and have all established their authorities and commands within and outside their territories and boy have they been effective and fruitful too. They bore many seeds and have in fact outgrown their territories.

Many events and fairytales for posterity have been written, edited and updated to date too. But it can be all embarrassing and nauseating at the very least considering the level of progress attained nationally since independence. What has been the most baffling of the lots is the unequivocal dissonance to reach a definite compromise in salient and sensitive issues within every gathering, its sometimes completely disgusting when you see the obvious yet choose to deviate from the true line of discussion. We don't call a spade a spade anymore. We rally facts simlpy to suit sentiment. We scare away from assuaging a balance between these contrasting realms we make our abode.

In most recent times especially, the daily newspapers have been engraved with mind boggling headlines that would have called for a review of our constitution, an overall auditing of the state expenditure, a new look into the salaries and allowances attached to public offices, re-valuation of our electoral value, vicissitude in schools syllabuses and tertiary institutions schemes and many more.  But here we are holding on to the precious little thing we have; sanity and hope for the better.

In reality, we have too many people in contention for power, too many topmen at the helms of affair. Too many power house battling it out on the political field, today the news says one thing, tomorrow it goes back to say another. Somebody get accused of something today, tomorrow he comes out to deny it abruptly and just so you know it might aptly spell the end of the crisis or libel as the case may be.

So much vilification and slandering and it goes on and on. Too many strong forces now go ahead to purchase media houses and assemble news agencies to achieve their political aim and goal. So many altercation across opposite ends, so many accusations and confrontation going on at will, even proclamations of things not witnessed, mongerings and hearsay steal the headlines the very next day.

How did we get hear?

We got here simply by misplaced trust towards our leaders, mistaken loyalty towards our political system, misplaced loyalty towards our ethnic line and misguided loyalty towards our fellow country men.

If not handled critically, it might just be the beginning of the end for our dear country; Nigeria. We need to imbibe alternative teaching, hence, I can say vividly that we desire an holistic approach to our dawning issue which even the most unbelieving and ever doubting Thomas will come to agree with. A varied method highly different from our conventional approach to solutions which has to a much extent taken us nowhere in this fairy ride to no place particularly. We proper documentation of data analysis, everything said in the past need to count, you don't right all the wrongs of the past just like that. We forget yesterday just too soon.

Nigerians have been through a lot but for how long do we keep coming out of these ordeals unscathed. For how long do we keep getting lucky from the same evil predicament that befalls us each time. They say 'once beaten twice shy', I can categorically state that for Nigeria it is 'once beaten half shy'.

Deeduke Blog Page Revamped

Its been a while in here, sometimes I feel too lonely to press on. Went through some little complications and had a moment of self interlude to juxtapose between the different sides of life been presented to me. Maintaining a moral compass to lead you through the very essence of life and meeting the proper moral standards to balance the status quo.

Its a pretty sad tale altogether when you even consider the economic and social values as well. A factor independent of your cerebral capability, moral value, business acumen, intellectual prowess, social standards, erudite ability and all, yet it holds a deep sense of power to determine what exactly goes on in one's life.

My mama once told me to never give up on my goal, regardless of whatever phase life presents. It is an analogy that have since been in my possession,  a standard i have since lived by and i have put into practice. A sporadic balance with stability is acceptable but to call it quit is out of order and quite unacceptable. So that's the case!

But I'm here and better, served hot and with some cream to suit exactly your taste, trust me, there is going to be no dull moment within this phase of our affair.

I learnt a lesson today from the most unlikely source, a lady, yeah! She advised jokingly that "setting the ball rolling in life is prime regardless of which is placed first sometimes, whether you plan the family life first or you leap with the job placement, however way, God is in full control"

It was deep and profound but we made a bant of it including the orator. But I had a hold of it, I reminisced on the forthcoming, pondered on the present and appropriate the future with regards to control and acceptability. But what the hell! Sometimes our future is way beyond our understanding and control. It's in God's hand like she said.

I was entangled in a much related circumstance at that period and I needed a good understanding of what was before me; to be or not to be shielded away from myself. I'm my own greatest enemy. May God help me.

Now that the ball is set rolling on me, I hope and pray I get a good grip of my destiny now. It's sickening when you've got a lot of grounds to cover without the capacity and zeal to operate. I sincerely hope the gods smile on me now. How much I need support and comfort now?

Ever felt like a child when you are most needed to be an adult. Its happening to me now. But I will pass through that, I believe!

Need For National Redirection

We all went adrift from the euphoria and despair of the post election drama, we all no doubt hovered aimlessly out of position and issues based at one time or the other. The (new) opposition got too assiduously absorbed with the now accustomed criticism which was adopted from the then opposition who happened to be in power now.

We are at this juncture already and though such a cruddy and raunchy situation we find ourselves economically, we are left with little option but to move on as a unified country with so much hope to hold on to. Divided Nigeria will make a meagre leap like the past regimes but a united Nigeria will know no bound.

With so much conundrum and embattled awkwardness on our hands, with so many impending case files and litigation at the court of law. We need to address the fundamentals which basically affects the common man on the streets, the women and little one's in our nation Nigeria.

Like the modalities for IGR we need to diversify our governmental policies and agenda in differential sequence with the common man's diligence and perseverance. Corruption war, will decide the outcome of a quarter of the battle while leaving other stones unturned. But a grid and framework of grassroots sensitization on the need for Ethics and Value Orientation is indeed the nucleus of a corrupt free Nigeria.

Hence, the need to fortify our integrity towards building an ethical and value oriented Nigeria, but first it has to start with you and I.

My Football Random Thoughts

Some crazy random thoughts on football; it's the first time on this blog am speaking football. Yeah they call it soccer in America! I met a Nigerian American who while talking mentioned soccer in place of football and I was like; seriously? He corrected himself considering his location and time (in Nigeria).

Yeah! I'm one of those few who honestly have an equivalent level of dislike for Sepp Blatter and Mitchell Platini. I think they have proven power can always intoxicate them at whatsoever hour. I hope Blatter doesn't go to jail though, he has done more good than harm and he brought the world to Africa. I love him still.

I really hope the 23 year old Barcelona forward, Neymar Jr wins the Ballon d'or, let's end this Messi-Ronaldo dominance once and for all. Football is fun remember? Not some boring thug of war game between two contrasting personalities. Luiz Suarez deserved a place in the top three too.

This is Mourinho's open chance or a sitter to managing Manchester United. Its now or never for him (the special one's love for manutd is one of football's worst kept secret). Dasuki saga

There were series of trending topics and headlines all over the news yesterday which perhaps included fuel scarcity, assassination attempt at DSP Ike Ekweremadu, Yobe bomb blast (which reportedly killed several number of people and leaved many more injured) and the president's ordered arrest of ex-NSA Dasuki.

He (the president I mean) seemed to be taking this Dasuki case very personal, that he had to be tweeting the reports directly from his official account at about 10pm. Whoever submits panel reports at that hour? Couple with the president's immediate issuance of order of arrest. He further went on to judge him guilty as charged.

I hope he gets a fair trial, because the handwriting on the wall only goes to prove the president is hell bent to tarnishing and putting into disrepute the man's image. Or are there no procedures for an indictment to be submitted to security agencies and an arrest warrant issued? Buhari orders? It's a sham and a shame too.

Rotimi Amaechi was indicted with the state's panel reports and Gov Wike didn't make an arrest. There were allegations levelled against Fashola coming on the heels of his immediate relieve of office from Gov Ambode and prof Anthony Onwuka (min of education) who infact has been found guilty of fraud and racketeering, yet they were all awarded with juicy ministerial offices.

Dear president, this is democracy and not the military regime. There are legal counsels and procedures to this effect. You do not accuse anybody of a crime until proven so in court. Reports of a panel firsthand on social media?

Pathetic!

My deep thought

There is so little we can say, ok I will say it's all going to be to no avail. In as much as I do not necessarily believe much can come out of this present government, they have my full support.

I have just started to unravel the flipside of the whole APC fairytale turn reality show. They thought out the best possible mean to hijack power from the PDP. I am really sure they listed them out in these order: brainwash; deceits; lies; ill promises and propaganda.

Nigerians desperately needs a messiah. Yes my dear, it worked a great deal. Nigerians heard exactly what they wanted to hear. More like those relatives who promise you the world after one probably (may be) recently lost a mum and/or dad. You know how it usually ends.

If you ask me (though am no T. B Joshua) I forsee a divided APC; PDP re-emergence (not sure if it will resurrect with a new party name; a divided North; and an unpredictable election come 2019. 50/50 chance.

N. B: I solemnly hope and pray the presidency manages this MASSOB crises with diplomacy and humane impression without the least ruler and military instinct he's blessed with which might no doubt incite some tribal, geoethnic and
geopolitical crises

And again despite so much hike in price of petrol, Nigerians do not seem to be complaining like hell, our perseverance has returned. Good to know. Jonathan's head would have been demanded for by now. The monkey and bamboo would have been soaked in blood by now. Or just may be we are thinking it is our self induced blunder.

I Pray For The World

I love France so much, I have been there couple of times myself (that's a lie, because I have never travelled out of the four walls of Nigeria), I love the language, the people, the culture and on paper I have read numerous times that it's has one of the most beautiful cities in the world; Paris.

Despite all the showers of praise and adoration on this beautiful country, city and the people, also putting into consideration the tragic incident of terrorist attacks which occurred on Friday evening in Paris and environment. I hereby share my uttermost profound condolences and sympathy with the good people of France and the world as a whole.

But I ask myself these questions: can the world ever know peace again? Can love ever reign again? Can religion ever know peace again? We can deliberate on this matter from now till may be eternity but it's obvious that world peace is a thing of yesteryears and I do not see that replicating in these modern era of ours.

Terrorism itself has crept into the daily activities of my dear country, Nigeria. Way back you do be smart to never bet an average Nigerian ever committing suicide less being a terrorist. Its a whole different situation now because terrorism is now considered a frequent occurrence. Hence, I pray for Nigeria and Africa.


I commiserate with the world, on the loss of lifes in different regions with different circumstances and strategic falls. I console with the families and victims of wars, airstrikes, terrorist attacks, suicide bombings, military coups, poverty, malnutrition, natural disasters such as: earthquakes, flood and hurricane.

Peace is what I pray for, all around the world.

Amaechi, the Youths and the Ministerial Screening

This is neither evil nor pun intended but I will just spill it out just as it is. There are a million and one youths in Nigeria who would impact better to the populace than Rotimi Amaechi yesterday at the ministerial screening. Holy Christ! He virtually had nothing to share with the audience and indeed the globe watching, many questions came up but no intelligent reply proceeded. Senator Sani simply asked him to define corruption in his own terms (could any examination ever come cheaper), he simply tossed and gave stupid, superficial and common instances as a means of explanation. I honestly expected a deep and profound response which might position the listener in some trance.

Again I reiterate, there are many youths out there who would definitely perform far better than Amaechi yesterday. It was more of a social gathering or event over a distinguished assembly of senators. He dropped a joke too, some bants which revealed his secret ambition to becoming a senator in the 2019 I presume, with senator Goje (and there we had it, the primary purpose is never for the people it's just selfish ambition and battle of social ego).

Senator Ashafa also asked him to shed more lights on his corruption scandal which has since had a downtrodden effect on his reputation over a long period of time. Lo and behold, Gov Amaechi just maintained a position that simply puts the Nigeria judiciary and legislation in total jeopardy. It buttresses the long cliché where there are no records nor laws to back every acts and instances. In Nigeria people just get away with words that will forever silence them to the four walls of prison yard in other advanced and sane nations.

And on the wailers silence, i personally think it was not such a brilliant idea because the youths expected him to go through thorough grinding/confrontation but he won the battle without a spill of blood. Needless to say it left a mark of distaste on people's minds especially the youths (again) virtually across every unit involved, on the president, the APC and especially the PDP. But on the bright side, the senate passed him thus avoiding any disrupt in governance and proceedings albeit it maintained an easy flow of PMBs body language and trust amongst his syndicates.

Inciting the Political and Ethnic Divide in Nigeria

The president needs to be a bit more careful in implementing especially the sensitive governmental policies. He really needs to hold up in affairs which might incite the cynics or fuel out of contempt with regards to the recently trending issue of disparity between the diverse region of our country Nigeria. This is because the multi ethnic and cultural diversity of a nation deserves to be celebrated and promoted internationally towards national unification and economic growth over some secretive ideas of nurturing the contemptuous idea that we are a totally different entity.

If the colonial masters ever left behind a blight or a scar that will forever be painful down our spine which will no doubt create some airspace or constraints within our national unity, it's the disunity and disintegration between majorly the northern region and the southern region of the country. If sincerely analyzed, my dear president is doing absolutely nothing about it, in fact he his fueling up the saga thereby inciting more malicious and mischievous act between the divide.

The Yorubas for instance are limitating their relationship with the Fulanis in line with the recent kidnapping of the Yoruba chiefs and monarchs with which the Fulani herdsmen have not gone unsuspected. Different news and reports confirmed these travails and infidelities have come from none other sect but from the Fulani herdsmen with secret reports and investigation suggesting more evil and demonic act on the way. These are delicate, fragile and volatile issues that deserves immediate address and consultations to accommodate peace and justice within citizenry.

The flipside of this position is that the next government or administration probably from another ethnic divide might want to put in practice the reverse or same by empowering his ethnic and religious nobles with governmental appointments. We just might have for ourselves a vindictive policy and laws bended to alienate another region from power and politics. The government should not at any point endeavor or promote this unethical trend of situation. Let remember it's one Nigeria over some undeterred principles based on sentiments

Happy Independence from a Nigerian Youth

The independence day celebration as usual for the past 55 years have come and gone, the country no doubt was abruptly amassed in the euphoria of the day. The worldly bliss, cheers and verbal, resounding but diluted jubilanting mood of the epic and golden achievement of our past leaders who oversaw and make reality a feat that forever defined and structure the shape, the entity and future of this great nation.

Nigeria as an independent nation have been through quite a lot in the past.  Achievements have sailed through the high and low coast of life. The new generation of descendants have awoken to an unconvincing and impotent echelon of accomplishments that have limit our status to a meagre state in the international standard. It's quite sad and a big drawback that the future itself is still blur (even after 55 years for the average Nigerian youths) on sight. One might argue that this is a myopic and insane level of review and assessment of the near future, likewise the presentment of tomorrow today is a big shackle and impediment to the generation of today.

Nigerians surely deserves better than what the present offers. Youths are reborn and revamped to be thoroughly independent of government despite their haphazard and unstable policies but for how long? How many youths can adapt and be successful without depending on government? The global economic turmoil and meltdown is like the biblically revealed end time, the political misdemeanor and distrust is a representation of the level of incompetence, disrespect and disloyalty of our leaders who are sparingly fast becoming the oblivion figure head at the helms of affairs of leadership. They are transforming into object, mannequin or misrepresentation of the people's desire and empathy to achieving greatness.

1. Afenifere spits fire over cattle rearing in S-West

AFENIFERE, a Pan-Yoruba Socio Political group rose from an emergency meeting in Akure, the Ondo state capital and called for the stoppage of cattle rearing activities in  South West states following the menace of Fulani herdsmen. The group said that the activities of the  herdsmen in the states have endangered the lives of the people. Spokesman of the group, Yinka Odumakin said that their activities  should be stopped in every space of Yoruba land just as he called for the arrest of those who abducted a Chieftain of the group, Chief Olu Falae. Odumakin declared that; “ In the event this call is not heeded then our people may resort to self help to protect themselves.’’

2. How Fulani herdsmen kill, rape Ogun residents, farmers

Farmers and residents of agrarian communities in some local government areas of Ogun State have some gory tales to tell on the menace of Fulani cattle rearers, otherwise known as Fulani herdsmen. So many lives have been lost while property worth millions of Naira has been destroyed allegedly by these Fulani marauders . It was gathered that, the Fulani herdsmen move with their cattle from one of these agrarian communities to the other wreaking havoc. Further findings have also shown that worse still, they do not respect the borders of the state. They did not only seek pasture they inflict deaths and mayhem.

3. Female suicide bombers hit Maiduguri

Multiple female suicide bombers, yesterday evening, sneaked into Sageri, Ajilari and other communities on the outskirts of Maiduguri, Borno State capital, and detonated bombs which left scores dead and many injured. Ajilari ward, which is on outskirt of Maiduguri, had two days to Sallah, witnessed a suicide bomb attack which left over 100 people dead with 97 seriously injured. The multiple explosions in Sageri and Ajilari occurred simultaneously at about 7:30p.m., after which men of the 7 Division, Nigerian Army, responded with their artillery fire power.

4. Troops raid Boko Haram fuel dump

Troops have discovered and raided another Boko Haram fuel dump at Abbaganaram area of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. Army Spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, said yesterday that the fuel dump was raided on Wednesday, following a tip-off by well- meaning citizens. Col. Usman said one person was arrested while several items were confiscated during the operation in the city. “During the operation, one person, Musa Abba, was arrested and the following items were discovered and confiscated; 11 drums of AGO and one empty drum.

5. MINISTERIAL LIST: Why Buhari holds on to 15 other nominees

There are feelers from the Presidency that the remaining 15 names of ministerial nominees will hit the Senate early next week after what sources described as ‘laborious’ security checks and vetting of the prospective nominees. The high-wire tension and expectations with which Nigerians awaited President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial nominees have been doused with his submission of names of 21 nominees to the Senate. As of last night, the various security agencies were said to be working frantically to beat the new deadline said to have been given to them by the President.

6. We’re not doing badly at 55, says Obasanjo

Despite the country’s “mistakes and missteps,” former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said Nigeria is not doing badly at 55 as a nation, compared to the so called settled societies or matured countries. Obasanjo who noted that 55 years in the life of a nation is still relatively young said the country has managed to be dynamic and progressive all these while.

7. Flood ravages 100 Niger villages

Over 100 villages in Niger state have been submerged in flood resulting from the release of water by three hydro- electric dams of Shiroro, Jebba and Kainji power stations. It was learnt that the flood disaster had spread over five local government areas of the state including Shiroro, Lavun, Mokwa and Lapai. The state Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr. Lugard Bijimi, confirmed in Minna yesterday, saying that 70 villages were affected in Lavun local government area, 10 in Lapai, 10 in Mokwa and over 20 villages in Shiroro local governments.

8. Nigeria@55: Ekiti cancels independence celebration

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State on Thursday cancelled all forms of fanfare as well as stadium parades usually held on Independence Day celebrations. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Fayose in a broadcast said there was nothing to celebrate in view of the economic situation in the country. “I do not think it is proper to engage in jamboree when it is almost becoming increasingly difficult to pay workers salaries. “The current situation demands sober reflection from all and we cannot pretend about this,” Fayose said.

9. MASSOB has gone into hiding in Onitsha – Police

The Police Area Com­mander in Onitsha, Anambra State, Mr. Philip Ezekiel, an As­sistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), yesterday said that the command has finally clamped down on the members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), who have gone into hiding in the state. He said since the Com­missioner of Police in the state, Mr. Hosea Karma banned the activities of MASSOB in the state, nobody had come out to claim that he was a member of MASSOB or gather in the name of the group.

10. Vote of confidence: Another senator denies endorsing Saraki

Senator Sabo Mohammed Nakudu representing Jigawa West in the upper legislative chamber has dissociated himself from the list of 84 senators who allegedly passed a vote of confidence on the Senate President Bukola Saraki, following his ongoing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. In a handwritten statement on his official letterhead, Senator Nakudu said that his consent was never sought before being included in the list of those who voted in support of the embattled senate president.

1. At last, Buhari sends ministers’ list to Senate

President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, sent names of the first set of ministerial nominees to the Senate for confirmation. The list, however, got to the Senate after the end of the day’s plenary, prompting the Red Chamber to declare that it was yet to receive the list from the President. This almost resulted in a row between senators on the platforms of All Progressives Congress, APC, and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, but was quickly nipped in the bud by the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, who was only 24 hours earlier given a confidence vote by his colleagues. Saraki on his Twitter handle, confirmed that he had received the ministerial list. The long-awaited list was presented to the Senate President by the Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari and the Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly (Senate), Ita Enang, at 4. 59 pm, yesterday. The list was said to contain names of 21 ministerial nominees.

2. CBN raises concern over declining growth

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has raised concerns over the continued slow down of the country’s economic growth. The central bank on Wednesday also said the banking system had enough liquidity to take up what foreign investors might sell after JP Morgan removed Nigeria from its bond index. The CBN plans to retain foreign currency controls because of concerns about slowing growth, a senior bank official said on Wednesday. Growth was 2.35 percent in the second quarter year on year, compared with 6.54 in the same quarter of 2014. “We are concerned that we are having declining growth,” Moses Tule, the Central Bank’s monetary policy director, told reporters. He defended the bank’s decision to impose currency controls to preserve foreign reserves, which fell 23 per cent in the year to Sept. 23, central bank data showed.

3. Buhari ‘ll be distracted, overworked as Petroleum Minister —NACCIMA

The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, NACCIMA, yesterday, faulted President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision not to appoint a Minister of Petroleum, saying the President would be distracted and overload himself with excess workload. Speaking in an interview in Abuja, Mr. Billy Harry, National Vice President, NACCIMA, stated that the President already had too much work to do to saddle himself with a ministerial appointment. He said if Buhari really wants to bring the change dividend that Nigeria voted for, he should focus on administering all the ministries from a vantage point as President, not as a minister and a President. He said: “It will distract him and not give him the required space and work time to be able to administer facets of the economy and policies. “We have so many more issues other oil. Agriculture alone can swallow everything that oil is doing.” Agriculture alone can give us over 500 per cent of income stream of what oil is doing. So, does it mean that if he wants to curb corruption in that sector, he has to also be minister of agriculture?

4. Sylva wins Bayelsa APC guber ticket again

Former Bayelsa State governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, yesterday, won in the rescheduled primary of All Progressives Congress, APC, to emerge as the party flag bearer for the December 5,  governorship election in the state. Sylva polled 981 votes to beat his closest rival, Chief Godknows Powell, who garnered 39 votes. Fourteen governorship aspirants participated in the primary.

5. Tribunal declares APC candidate winner of Taraba Central senatorial election

The National Assembly Election Tribunal sitting in Jalingo, Taraba State, under the chairmanship of Justice Samson Anjor, has nullified the election of Senator Bashir Marafa Aba. Marafa was declare the winner of the Taraba Central Senatorial seat on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the April general election. The result of the election was contested by Alhaji Yusuf Abubakar Yusuf of All Progressives Congress, APC. Yusuf petitioned the cancellation of election results in Gayama ward in Bali local government area of the senatorial constituency by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,stating that the cancellation gave room for the PDP candidate to gain more votes than APC in the election.

6. Flood: Kogi to commence evacuation in 48 hours

Kogi State government has announced its intent to commence the process of evacuating people living in flood prone areas in the next 48 hours. This came at a time victims of 2012 flood disaster in the cried cried out that they had been schemed out in the allocation of the post-flood estate built by the government for their relocation. Yomi Awoniyi, the Deputy Governor and Chairman, flood Management Committee, said the evacuation protocols would be activated by the state government, if the water level continued to rise. Awoniyi disclosed that the water from close monitoring, rises every hour, adding that the state was no longer as comfortable as it was believed. He appealed to those living in flood prone areas to move upland to avoid severe loss of lives and properties.

7. Councillors sack Udu LG boss, freeze account

THE Chairman of Udu Local Government Area, in Delta State, Solomon Kpoma, was yesterday, impeached by the legislative council, while the local government account was also ordered frozen. Motion for the chairman’s impeachment was moved by Henry Igbine, Councillor representing Ward 20, Aladja, and supported by Duke Efegbere, Councillor representing Ward 8, Owhase, and signed by 16 out of the 17 Councillors that attended the sitting. According to the councillors, the Chairman was impeached for refusing to furnish the legislative house with income and expenditure of the council since his assumption in office over alleged misappropriation of public funds and misinforming the public through showcasing of non-existent projects and high-handedness. Another motion was also moved by Henry Egbine, and seconded by Benjamin Sharta, and signed by 16 councillors that all accounts of Udu Local Government Area be frozen till further notice.

8. 2019: PDP zones presidency to the North

AHEAD of 2019 presidential election, the national leadership of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has zoned the Presidency to the North, saying it has learned its lessons and would never repeat any such mistake in future. The party also said it had drawn a roadmap towards the 2019 general election and for future electoral success. This was part of the recommendations of Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu-led PDP Post- Election Review Committee, which recommended that in accordance with the popular views expressed in the submissions to the committee, the Presidency should be zoned to the North as it would also assuage any ill-feelings over any perceived breach of the party’s zoning principle.

9. Wike begins defence at Rivers election petitions tribunal

Governor Nyesom Wike, Wednesday, began the defence of his mandate, before the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Abuja. The governor, whose election is being challenged by the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its governorship candidate in the state, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, opened his defence before the tribunal, by producing seven witnesses that testified on his behalf. Among those that mounted the witness box, and testified that the governorship election actually held in Rivers State on April 11, 2015, included the traditional ruler of Dagbo village in Khana Local Government Area of the state, Chief Adamgbo Sampson. The 53 years old king, who was led into evidence by Wike’s lawyer, Mr. Okey Wali, SAN, told the Justice Suleiman Ambursa-led panel that he participated at the election which he said was violence free.

10. Jonathan’s ministers, aides not victimised by Buhari’

FORMER Police Affairs Minister, Alhaji Jelili Adesiyan, has said neither himself  nor his colleagues and their aides are being victimised by the new administration. Speaking with newsmen in Akure, the Ondo state capital, Adesiyan said probing the ministers should not be seen as victimization by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
Adesiyan however  kicked against the selective probe of the President Jonathan administration but said that it should be holistic “even when President Buhari was the military Head of State” The minister, who was asked to react to alleged victimization of former Ministers under the Jonathan administration said “I am not seeing them doing it.

The senator representing Kaduna Central at the Uper Chamber of the National Assembly, Shehu Sani has opined that peace talk with the Boko Haram extremists would surely bring insurgency to abrupt end in the country. According to him, Federal Government’s plan to negotiate with the violent group was the way forward for Nigeria. Speaking on Thursday in Abuja, the senator enjoined the government to ensure that the negotiating team was made up of people capable of bringing the insurgents to the negotiating table.

Former governor of Bayelsa State and governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Timipre Sylva, has boasted that he will emerge as the party’s candidate at the primary scheduled for Tuesday. In a statement on Thursday by his media aide, Doifie Buokoribo, he urged his supporters and loyalists to remain focused and steadfast despite the postponement of the primary.

4. NLC to Collaborate with ICPC in Monitoring Bailout Funds

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has promised to work in concert with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, to monitor the disbursement and use of the N338bn bailout funds which the federal government released to about 27 states of the federation. President of the NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday noted that the congress has directed all state councils in the benefiting states to serve as whistle blowers on any criminal diversion of the bailout funds.

5. Buhari Cancels Visit to Cross River for Groundbreaking of 260km Highway

The proposed visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Cross River State for the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a 260km superhighway has been cancelled. A statement by Christian Ita, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River, on Thursday, confirmed the cancellation.

6. Court Stops ICPC, EFCC, SSS, others From Arresting, Probing Ex- Amnesty Boss, Kuku

A federal high court has barred security agencies and anti-corruption bodies from arresting or probing the former Coordinator of Presidential Amnesty Programme, Kingsley Kuku over alleged fraud. Mr. Kuku is accused of diverting billions of naira meant for amnesty programmes for former militants in the oil-rich Niger Delta.

A Burkina Faso general, who served as top military aide to former dictator, Blaise Compaore, for three decades, was named Thursday as the leader of a coup that sacked the West African nation’s interim government. Gilbert Diendere, a former chief-of-staff to Mr. Compaore, was named the head of the new junta called the National Council for Democracy.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has charged five directors in the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs to court for allegedly stealing N655 million and $100,000. The officials were arraigned before an Abuja Federal High Court, Maitama, presided over by Justice Baba Yusuf.

9. Abuja Chief Judge Advocates Bail for Robbery Suspects
