Yesterday, the Oyo State Gubernatorial Election Tribunal admitted the written addresses filed by the APC, the PDP and the INEC led counsels in a petition challenging the victory of Engr. Seyi Makinde in the March 9 guber election.
The counsel to Adelabu and APC, Yusuf Alli (SAN), urged the court to affirm that the petition was highly meritorious, except where some evidences were expressly abandoned due to time and the other witnesses who were not called do have their statement properly laid before the tribunal.
Yusuf Alli raised that there were massive electoral infractions in 28 of the 33 Local Government Areas of the state and the documents will speak for itself after being adopted
According to him, cases were not won on the quantum of witnesses called but on the quality of testimony of the witnesses called, adding that the testimony of petitioners’ witness number 62 (PW62) speaks volume.
He went further to disapprove the counsel to the PDP comments for the judge to disregard of the evidences of the APC. Alli said all documents will speak for themselves and that the PDP counsels did not oppose the evidence when brought forward, but are now quick to cry foul when the case is all wrapped up to the closing phase. He hence advised the panels to disregard their comment.
Justice Sirajo Muhammed who led the three-man panel of the tribunal showered praises on the counsels for their swift cooperation all through the proceedings, he also added that a judgment date would be communicated to the counsels for public dissemination.
The APC candidate, Bayo Adelabu who was present at the tribunal, use the opportunity to communicate to his teeming supporters and the people of Oyo state that election is not a do or die and that they should continue to be calm and law abiding as they have always been known to be. In his words "I told you that to be a governor is not do or die but all the written rules and regulations, guiding the election, I mean the entire electoral acts must be duly followed. We found out that (in the course of election) there were a lot of infractions, we have shown that to the whole world and at the end of the day, victory shall be ours and Oyo state will come back to the All Progressives Party, Oyo state will come back to Adebayo Adelabu and my able deputy, Insha Allah."
